Botswana take on Comoros
06 Sep 2022
Botswana senior national women football team will today face Comoros in a Hollywoodbets COSAFA championships Group C clash.
The Mares, who have not won a game, are expected to redeem their pride this time.
The girls played to a one-all draw against Malawi on Friday, and managed another draw by holding the defending champions, Tanzania, to a goalless draw on Monday.
On paper, the Comoros are the weakest in Group C as they lost 0-3 to Tanzania and 0-6 to Malawi.
The Mares coach, Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang, said their opponents should expect a difficult game since her charges were thirsty for victory.
She said Comoros had the strength to fight the whole 90 minutes.
However, she said, ‘we are going to go all out. This time we want three points. I take it that the girls are now confident and nothing will stop them from earning the three valuable points”.
She, however, said her team suffered a major setback after Keitumetse ‘Ben 10’ Dithebe sustained an injury that ruled her out against both Tanzania and Comoros.
“But all is not lost. We have capable girls who have shown hunger and I take it that they will continue with their fighting spirit,” she said.
Meanwhile, the coach said she was happy with how the team handled the defending champions, considering that they had fielded all their regular players.
Furthermore, Nkutlwisang shared that she was not fazed by the fact that they had not picked up three points, saying their intention was to either win or draw in the games.
She said the first two games were like finals and the team deserved a pat on the back for fighting to the last whistle in both. ENDS
