Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) team has left for Malawi to compete at the 20th Confederation of University and colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) games scheduled for August 29 to September 3.
Team Botswana comprises 76 athletes who will compete in volleyball (women), netball, football (men), basketball (men), athletics, chess and tennis.
In his message during a farewell ceremony in Serowe Thursday, BOTESSA president, Keorapetse Setlhare, said the team was well prepared, adding most were talented players.
Setlhare said CUCSA games brought together regional university and college athletes to compete in various sporting codes. He said athletes trained together to allow them time to get to know one another, adding that the last camp was in Serowe.
Setlhare said they were hopeful that the team would represent the country with dignity and bring home some medals.
He said the selection motivated youngsters into building good profiles for themselves.
Serowe Brigade representative, Serefete Mmusi congratulated the team and advised them to be united.
“Do away with the spirit of fear and rely on the creator, the Almighty God,” stated Mmusi.
Basketball captain, Theo Dipholo said the team was solid and ready to take the bull by the horns. He promised that the team would work hard, follow the rules, behave and bring home medals. ENDS
