Bagwasi in thrilling WBF clash

23 Aug 2022

Hard hitting boxer, Steven Bagwasi, will go toe-to-toe with Tanzania’s Saidi Chino in the World Boxing Federation (WBF) super featherweight division Friday evening.

The University of Botswana Indoor Sport Arena will host the top drawer and undoubtedly explosive duel between two talented and strong boxers.

Speaking on the sidelines of an intensive training session on Tuesday, Bagwasi said he was in perfect form to face off the Tanzanian pugilist.

He said he was not only going to fight for glory in the vacant super featherweight title, but also for honour in front of his home crowd.

Bagwasi last tasted victory in January against Soweto based boxer, Koos Sibiya, in Johannesburg.

Bagwasi, who carries the ring name Small, despite his well-built frame and powerful punch, has an impressive record of seven wins and only tasted defeat at the hands of Ayanda Nkosi in 2018, a year after he joined the professional ranks.

In Chino, Bagwasi faces a mammoth task drawing from his opponent’s impressive track record in regional professional bouts.

Bagwasi’s power and hunger to impress before his home crowd maybe enough to nullify his opponent’s ambition of the much sort after belt.

He packs an impressive artillery in attack always pouncing on his opponents like a wounded buffalo.

In an interview, the event promoter, Thuso Khubamang of Scud Missile Promotions, said preparations for the title fight are up and running.

He said boxing fans were to be treated to a thrilling contest from the two decorated boxers with yet other mouthwatering six supporting bouts for the night.

Khubamang said the main supporting bout will usher in WBF International super bantamweight defending champion Moabi Ngaka to the ring in his maiden appearance since he outpunched local rival Onkarabile Mothibedi in October last year.

Ngaka will take on to the ring against Selena Maduna of South Africa.

Another interesting fight to look forward to will pit former Zone IV champion Mmusi Tswiige against Adnera Mabeza in the six round super welter weight fight.

Tswiige will be making his first cut in professional ranks after an impressive career in amateur boxing.

Other bouts lined up for the night will pit Tshephang Babui against Tefo Letshikgwane, Lentswe Zwinila will square against Choga Ntoti while Boifang Kenaope will entertain South African Cedrick Chauke in the light weight division. ENDS
