Young riders ready to test skills at MTB challenge

This year’s Dimension Data Route73 MTB challenge will be full of excitement as young riders battle it out for top positions.

In the boys’ category, the battle will be between Ted Makgetho, Simphiwe Potongwane and Subho Ghosh.

All the riders have shown a tenacious resilience to achieve results in the past challenges.

Dimension Data Route73 challenge will offer a perfect opportunity for the boys to start having a more focused training to battle each other in the years to come.

With the route providing single tracks, loose rocks and ascents and descents, a rider with quicker reflexes, better judgement and hungry to win will have his day to celebrate and setting his sights for the next battleground and another race, limping from the Dimension Data Route73 MTB challenge race.Leading the girls’ youth category is Myra Mantle who will be doing the 50km distance. The 15-year-old Mantle is the Mountain Bike (MTB) national youth champion and she has displayed stellar performance through the years in the MTB space.

She only has a year left in the youth category, and she is set to take over the junior category.In the Elite women category, Bakang Ebudilwe is also set to display her MTB skills with experience from the grueling Absa Cape Epic.

The national MTB holder who just came back from riding the Tour de Tuli, will be looking forward to fend for a podium finish as she put her skills to work in the technically challenging route.

After a tough competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Gontse Lethokwe comes home to compete in the Elite category of the Route73 challenge with vast experience to give him a better podium finish.

Although he had only made position two in the Dimension Data Route73 races, Lethokwe is expected to win the fifth edition as he will be paddling with experience from the cross country course of the Commonwealth Games.

28-year-old Lethokwe is best placed for a win as he will enter the challenge a strong and competent rider than he was before, following Commonwealth Games. ENDS
