Developing and promoting cycling amongst the youth is paramount to the sport’s success.

Guest rider during Orapa Classic Cycling Challenge on Sunday, Mmetla Masire, said cycling did not easily attract the youth due to its prohibitive equipment costs.

He said the event was geared towards ensuring that the youth were groomed into the cycling sport at an early age.

The objective, he said, aimed at ensuring that the youth in the zone of Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) were not found idling in the streets.

Masire, also Okavango Diamonds chief executive officer, commended Orapa Cycling Club for finding it fit to focus its efforts on the youth.

For his part, the OLDM general manager, Mogakolodi Maoketsa said the challenge aimed to make Orapa a great place for one to live in, work and visit.

Two cyclists, Maitseo Boyase and Kabelo Moremi, both of Motor Vehicle Accident Fund emerged the 30 kilometres champions under the female and male categories respectively.

Sekao Ntau of Team Swift scooped position one in the 60 kilometers female junior category while Thabo Seabelo of Tobetobe Club also got position one in the 60km male category.
