Botswana relay in action this evening

05 Aug 2022

All hopes are on the 4x 400 metres men’s relay team to redeem the country's pride this evening at 6.15pm after Batswana were shattered by the disqualification of 4x100 men’s relay for running outside their zone, at the ongoing World Athletics Junior Championships in Cali, Columbia.
The team Botswana coach, Chilume Ntshwarang said he was confident that the quartet would come to the party and restore the country's pride.
“We want to go to the finals, though it is not going to be easy considering the countries in our heat.  We have America and Italy who always give us a challenge,” he said.
Botswana will be in heat one, lane six alongside USA, Canada, Brazil, Romania, Italy and Bahamas.
Meanwhile, the 4 x100 men’s relay team finished in position three with a National U20 Record of 39.72, but they were later disqualified based on Technical Rule 24.19 which dictates that 'athletes are not permitted to run outside their takeover zones and shall start within their zones'.
The rule further states that if an athlete does not follow this rule, their team shall be disqualified. Ends
