Colour run marathon lovers are in for a treat on Saturday at the Serene View Gardens along Phakalane/Oodi road as the event, dubbed Botswana Colour Carnival brings new and exciting activities.
One of the event organisers, Olebile Keegope aka DJ Lunch bar said after a difficult season of COVID-19, which had the fun run recording low turnout last year, fans of the marathon would have the opportunity to experience new and exciting activities such as paint ball, volley ball, quad biking while children too would enjoy games and play cars.
He said Colour Run Marathon was a unique event celebrating health, happiness, and individuality, adding that the run would be on a five-kilometre stretch, where runners would be doused from head to toe with different colours of corn starch powder at every kilometre.
“Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race multi coloured,” he said, adding that once the race, also commonly known as the happiest 5k was over, the fun continues at the finish line with music, sports, games, such as sack racing, tug of war and dance.
He said vendors would serve runners with meal treats.
Attendees will also partake in aerobics. “Trust us, this year we have many fun activities and it will be one of the best 5K party on the planet,” Color Run, he said catered for all fun lovers, first time runners to seasoned athletes and in most cases attracted a lot of first-time 5K runners.
“The Color Run is proud to be a promoter that inspires our participants to live a more active lifestyle, on top of having fun,” he said. Lunch bar said more than 2 000 runners had already purchased the tickets and is satisfied at how people welcomed this year’s fun run.
“The early bird club pack special has been sold out and many people continue to buy tickets,”
He said many sponsors had shown support and organisations were interested in partnering with them. This week the run will also conduct a blood donation drive to sensitise the public on the importance of donating blood, in partnership with the blood transfusion centre.
This year’s colour run will also showcase local female Djs’ talent, which female Djs will perform at the after party, which has also attracted international artistes.
On giving back to the community, he said preparations for presenting the donations to the less privileged in Oodi were taking shape.
He said a certain percentage would go towards orphaned children and needy children.
Francistown will also have a colour run marathon treat in November. ENDS
