Botswana’s medal hopes in the men’s `boxing featherweight division at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham went up in smoke as George Molwantwa lost by a slim 3-2 judges split decision in his second round bout against New Zealand’s Alex Mukuka earlier today.
Molwantwa inched to the second round after an emphatic 4-1 victory against Uganda’s Jonathan Kyobe in the preliminary round.
All hope is now pinned on the hard-hitting Rajab Mohammed, who takes on Malaysia’s Qaiyum Ariffin today (Monday 7pm) in the men’s 51kg division.
If he goes past Malaysia Rajab will entertain the winner between Sri Lanka and England in the second round on Thursday. Ends
