Tebogo receives Oregon scholarship

Letsile Tebogo’s impressive performance on the track has attracted several suitors, among them, University of Oregon that has offered him a scholarship.
He will start his studies with the United States institution mid-September
The 100m runner announced this during a press conference in Cali, Columbia where he will compete at the World Junior Championships.
Tebogo recently shattered the world Under 20 record with 9.94. The record was held by US’s Trayvon Bromell’s at 9.97.
Tebogo expressed hope that his stay at the Oregon university will enhance his career, adding that getting motivation from the best athletes was also heart-warming.
He said the world 100 metres champion, Fred Kerley’s encouraged him not to give up as he had a long way to go.
Kerley encouraged him to keep on pushing until he reached his limit.
Meanwhile, Team Botswana coach at the Commonwealth Games, Justice Dipeba, said the team was ready and rearing to go.
“Our competition will start on Tuesday, but all in all the team is in good shape. We are looking forward to deliver and we would like to see athletes progressing to next round,” said Dipeba.
In other news, a press release from BNOC states that Isaac Makwala has decided to retire from the national team and consequently withdrew from the Commonwealth Games team.
The release says this shall allow the athlete to focus on competing in the upcoming Diamond League competition, which he has cited as being his focal point given the financial benefit and improvement to his general welfare. Ends
