Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) is working hard to assemble a team of young boxers to take part at this year’s Region 5 games slated for December in Malawi.

Speaking on the sidelines of an interclub boxing tournament hosted by Glenvalley club over the weekend, BoBA secretary general, Taolo Tlouetsile, said the technical team was finalising preparations to call the boxers into camp ahead of the regional tournament.

Tlouetsile was confident that with the level of competitiveness displayed during the interclub tourney, the team would replicate the past form they displayed in Lesotho.

The tournament is expected to attract tried and tested youth pugilists from Comoros, Seychelles, Zambia, Angola, eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile fists flew thick and fast at the Glenvalley recreational hall on Saturday as boxers traded heavy blows to impress national team scouts.

It was an easy walk in the park for Eastern Military Garrison’s Mmoloki Sekwape who impressed all the judges against a hapless Onalenna Sebakile of SSKB boxing club.

University of Botswana’s Molatlhegi Kobamelo was favoured by the judges split decision and won 3-2 against Onalethata Motlhalaakgosi of Francistown.

In the 57kg division, Chakalisa Thabang of Francistown beat Katlo Kgowe of Moshupa 4-1 while the second bout in the same division Francistown’s Moreri Phate lost 0-5 to Ribbin Modise of Moshupa.

In the elite male division 60kg champion, Treasure Moremi of DTCB beat Solomon Lere of Molepolole 4-1.

In the elite female division, Gosaitse Nkepe of EMG beat SSKB’s Kutlwano Sekhutlo 4-1.

In other interesting bouts lined up for the afternoon, national youth team sensational boxer Gift Thipe reproduced his past form and inched past visiting Arnold Moloi 5-0.Another gold medal prospect at the regional games Boitshoko Chepete of Selibe Phikwe beat Olefile Maikano of Moshupa 5-0.

The next interclub tournament to be held on August 13, will be hosted by Prisons boxing club. ENDS
