Lobatse will host a multi sport festival on July 16-17.
The spectacular event will feature football, karate, cycling, pool competitions and wrestling.
The sport fiesta will entail a beef and grill session at the golf course on July 17 where Lobatse based DJs’s and artistes will perform.
In an interview, one of the organisers Omphemetse Mmolai said the event was a brain child of some Lobatse natives who wanted to see their town back to its glory days.
Mmolai, who is the spokesperson for sports festival, said people should know that Lobatse was not a ghost town, but a forgotten one with different artistic talent.
“We also want to promote Lobatse as a destination of choice especially during holidays and an entertainment hub for patrons of all ages”, she said.
One of the change agents of Lobatse who is also in the organising team, Sensei Tshepo Bathai, said the event would attract quite a sizable crowd.
He said there would be Karate open championships where karatekas will be accumulating points to help them qualify for national team selection and Commonwealth karate championships.
Sensei Bathai divulged that the karate competitions would attract Botswana’s finest karatekas, adding Botswana Karate Association will oversee the competitions.
He said the football category had at least 12 social clubs, which would compete amongst themselves while four BFA registered ones will compete separately.
“This is not just a sports festival, there is an element of development.”
Maletamotse, Lobatse Stars, Bonto and OCM are the four BFA registered clubs that which will play against each other.
Sensei Bathai said when all is done and dusted they would share with the Lobatse community how the whole event went and then they will direct some of the proceeds to charity work. Ends
