The annual Good Samaritan’s football tournament featuring 10 social clubs will be held at Lewis Memorial School grounds in Molepolole during the coming President’s Day holidays.
Molepolole South MP, Kabo Morwaeng’s office has sponsored the fourth edition of the tournament to the tune of P25 000.
Launching the tournament, Morwaeng promised to increase the funds next year.
Morwaeng said the aim of the tournament was to promote sport in the village and further emphasised the importance of physical exercise in building health and wellness.
He further said participating in sporting activities helped the players from different teams to know each other while uniting people.
Morwaeng urged players to promote peace and engage each other on social issues such as Gender Based Violence (GBV).
He said he was concerned about the number of GBV cases that rocked the village and therefore, it was important to engage players on the subject, especially that most of them were youth.
The tournament initially involved eight teams, but the number has increased and the MP said this was an illustration that the event was growing.
He said the District Health Management Team (DHMT) would provide COVID-19 facilities while Tebelopele would offer HIV and AIDS counselling and testing services.
The MP, who is also the Minister for State President urged the participants to start preparing for next year’s tournament, which he promised would be bigger, with better prize money and he will also offer kits to all competing teams.
Morwaeng said Lewis grounds would be maintained and it would also be provided with a new fence.
He also promised his constituents that developments earmarked for their area would be undertaken.
The construction of the water pipeline linking Molepolole with Gamononyane has started and he said the village water network project would start soon with old pipes replaced.
He further said he has also embarked on the police station project.
This tournament could not be held in 2020 and 2021 as sporting activities were banned due to COVID-19 pandemic. Ends
