Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) has selected a team of 137 that will represent Botswana at the Confederation of University and College Sports Association (CUCSA) games in Malawi August 29-September 3.
The team comprises various codes such as basketball, netball, volleyball, football, chess, karate, tennis, athletics and table tennis.
BOTESSA vice president, Tebogo Kgari, said in an interview that the selection event held in Serowe went well.
Kgari said CUCSA games brought together athletes from universities and colleges in the southern region.
“We normally have challenges in preparing the teams because our players are from different institutions across the country. Some institutions failed to come due to financial constraints while some students were on vacations,’’ he said.
He said they wanted the players to train together for them to know each other, adding Serowe camp was the final one.
Kgari said they were optimistic that the team would represent the country well and bring medals home.
He said the selection activated and motivated youngsters into building their profiles.
“The selection is good since it will bring other student athletes back to the sports after being inactive for some time,’’ said Kgari.
Kgari emphasised that the BOTESSA technical committee and coaches were responsible for the selection of the players. Ends
