VTM FC have gained promotion to the Debswana First Division South League after winning the southern block playoffs over the weekend.
Ayanda Molefhe was the hero, scoring a brace in a 2-1 victory against UB Hawks.
In other matches, VTM defeated Naughty Boys 3-1, Mochudi United 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Debswana Young Stars.
They finished the playoffs with 10 points, followed by Hawks with nine points while Mochudi United occupied the third spot with four points.
Debswana Young Stars and Naughty Boys trailed on position four and five with three points and one respectively.
From the time they acquired the Kweneng Regional Football Association (KRFA) division two status from Mmakgosi FC, the VTM fame and success had been on the rise.
Their rise should be attributed to the smart leadership of chairperson and businessman, Vincent Mafuta.
“Our mission has form the time we took office, been to resource the club with playing facilities, and develop policies that would guide the team to self-sustenance. It is pleasing that all is falling into place,” said Mafuta.
Mafuta said the policies they adopted improved the clubs recruitment drive and players welfare system.
He said they resulted in the club being able to attract seasoned and quality players such as Molefhe, Tumisang Sekanonyana, Bogosi Mfila and Lesego Lubinda among others, to bolster their promotional chances.
In an interview following their promotion, VTM assistant coach, Otantshekela Mooketsi, said the road to the first division required a lot of hard work and dedication.
“The journey has not been all rosy, but credit to the management, technical staff, players and supporters for the role that they collectively played throughout the season in ensuring that we met our goals,” said the former national team left back.
Mooketsi applauded VTM players for sticking to their game plan throughout the playoffs, adding that it was important for players to stay focused at all time.
“One should be mindful that the playoffs are very demanding and the squad depth is critical during the series, it was therefore important that the players concentration level was always on point throughout the entire series,” said Mooketsi.
He further said the team was well aware of the challenges that came with promotion to the second tier league.
He said they would need to improve their squad with more quality players who would be able to compete in the first division. ENDS
