Bloody Sunday for The Zebras and The Mares

08 Jul 2022

Botswana national teams, the Zebras and the Mares will play crucial clashes on Sunday in Morocco and South Africa.

The Zebras, who have so far won two games against Seychelles and Comoros, will face stubborn Angola in a Hollybets COSAFA Cup clash to be played at South Africa’s King Zwelethini Stadium at 2pm.

The Mares, who lost their WAFCON game 2-0 against Nigeria, will be in a do or die clash against Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Zebras coach, Mogomotsi Mpote said he was cognisant of the fact that their game was ‘a win or nothing’ for them to proceed to the quarterfinals.

He said against Comoros, the players managed to facilitate a lot of scoring opportunities, adding that his strikers looked sharp on the day.

Mpote said Angola was a free scoring team and their plan was to deny them balls, and force them to be the ones doing the chasing all the time.

“I anticipate high pressing game from Angola, because they are going to deny us a chance to build the ball from the back,” he said.

On the other hand, the Mares coach, Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang said she was aware that their game against Banyana would be a deciding one.

She said they were at par with Banyana Banyana in terms of height, adding that their intention was to deny their opponent time and space  to prevent them from making dangerous moves. END
