Car spinning enthusiasts went wild with excitement as the daring spinners scalded tyres during another burn out dubbed Head-2-Head on Saturday.

The weekend thriller came after an explosive showcasing by both local and international spinners at last month’s SADC spinning fiesta at the KC 12 arena in Mmamashia.

Local spinners gave it their all in front of a bumper crowd.

Spinners swept the track with their BMW 325s fondly known as Gusheshe in the car spinning parlance. Thy teared up tyres performing incredible stunts such as snake, doughnut, tyre bounce, power slide, free style, figure 8 and roll back packing among others.

Northside crew and the likes of Mbatshi Slave fondly known as Dobenase, Thabang Phiri of Boss Phiri fame, and Nhlanhla Makhandla of Shyboy crew- had the crowd eating from the palm of their hands with excellent gliding techniques and wonderful near death stunt performances.

Perhaps the toast of the afternoon was the dexterity of 11-year-old Mano Dada who set up the spinning scene on fire with incredible performances showing off his car control.

The Kuruman youngster commanded his car with ease and never struggled with every move well calculated and orchestrated to the delight of the crowd.

At the end of his performance he took a lap of honour and received a rousing applause from the crowd.

Other spinners who made the cut from South Africa included accomplished veteran spinner Sunesh Pursad, Kayla Oliphant and Bareng Mpane among others.

In an interview, one of the event organisers, Itumeleng Botlhoko, said they were impressed by the overall organisation and performances of the drivers.

“One thing we would like the public to appreciate is that both spinning and drifting are defensive types of driving techniques.

There is a misconception about spinning being a careless and reckless thrill seeker, we are championing of the fact that quality of defensive driving techniques is what makes good spinning and drifting professional,” she said.

Botlhoko said spinning and drifting were professional motorsport code that young people could get training on, compete on as a foundation for developing motorsport athlete skills.

She said her team was planning to do more and explore opportunities possible for motorsport development in the country.

She said spinning was a tangible and lucrative career that young people could explore and could allow them to develop careers and make ends meet.

Despite a few logistical hiccups Botlhoko said they delivered the best spinning contest so far. Ends
