23 Jun 2022

Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the No 1 Ladies Coffee House has put a blazing packed line up for this year’s Fete De La Musique edition slated for No 1 Ladies Coffee House at Thapong Arts Centre on Saturday.

In an interview, the Alliance Francaise assistant librarian and cultural coordinator, Lesego Keeng said the event, known as World Music Day in English, was celebrated in more than 700 cities annually on June 21.

About Botswana’s celebration line up, she said it would feature Rhumba icon Alfredo Mos and Congolese musician and guitarists Kapenda Katuta.

“We will also have different local bands, Mogwana Traditional Dance Group and musician Hydro Molefe,” she said.

Zimbabwean hip hop artiste Josh JTG Palmer will also grace the event.

She said every year the organisation made calls for interested artistes to apply and be included in the lineup.

Fete De La Musique was first celebrated in France on June 21 of 1982 and has been celebrated annually since then.

‘Music lovers and citizens of France and other countries are urged to play music in their neighborhood or in public spaces during the day,” she said.

The cultural coordinator said the festival was born to give a greater population of musicians exposure by way of expressing themselves, thereby gaining popularity.  ENDS
