All systems go for final

16 Jun 2022

Recently crowned premier league champions, Gaborone United, will be looking at increasing their silverware in a clash with Security Systems in the Orange FA Cup final tomorrow.

With P700 000 at stake, GU alias the Money Machine will be looking at reviving their glory days while the Alarm Boys on one hand will be equally determined to finish the season with a trophy.

GU public relations officer, Romeo Benjamin, said they were determined to defend the cup and that the mood in the camp was high.

Benjamin said all the players were fit for selection except Kekaetswe Moloi who was serving suspension.

Despite finding it tough to win their semi-final encounter against Matebele who are plying their trade in the first division, Benjamin said GU had proved its mettle and they must not be judged by their previous performance.

As league champions, Benjamin said GU wanted to close the league on a high note by winning the FA Cup again.

“We are playing a team which we did not lose against in the league and we are determined to conclude our winning streak against them in the season,” said Benjamin.

Meanwhile, the communications manager at Security Systems, Zolani Kraai said his team was equally determined to lift the cup.

He said they were excited about the encounter and were expecting their supporters from across the country to come in large numbers.

Kraai said the team was not limping as all the players were available for selection. He said qualifying for the finals was an achievement and that the team was determined to grab the silverware on offer.

Kraai said in the past editions, the team made it to the quarter-finals and that reaching the finals was a great achievement.

Orange Botswana sponsorship coordinator, Segomotso Kgwatalala said the company, through sponsoring the tournament has had three exciting editions. Kgwatalala said their relationship with Botswana Football Association (BFA) was worthy in the development of football.

Kgwatalala also said the final of the third edition would be equally filled with excitement and that the football fraternity would be treated to a mouth-watering encounter. Kgwatalala said the runners-up would be compensated with P350 000.

Players and officials who have excelled throughout the tournament would also win awards and Kgwatalala said the player of the tournament would pocket P40 000 while the top goal scorer and goalkeeper of the tournament would each walk away with P25 000.

The honours will also be extended to the coach of the tournament, referee of the tournament and assistant referee of the tournament. They will each be acknowledged with P10 000.

Meanwhile, BFA public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane has assured the football fraternity that plans for the final were progressing accordingly and that he was looking forward to an exciting encounter.

He said tickets were on sale at GU and Security Systems offices. He urged football followers to buy their tickets well on time to avoid last minute hurdles.

Mpatane said Orange Botswana and BFA were working tirelessly to ensure that the 64th match of the third edition of the cup would not only be exciting in the field of play, but equally offer the much needed entertainment. ENDS
