Titanic clash on cards as Cubs Ditawana Double Action meet
09 Jun 2022
A battle of epic proportions is expected when Double Action take on Cubs Ditawana in the inaugural DTCB Women’s Football Top championship at Lekidi today.
Although on paper, Double Action is favourite, given that most of their players are part of the nation team, the Nhabe-based Cubs Ditawana will be equal to the task.
They are in Gaborone for a mission, part of which is to demonstrate that football is played for 90 minutes and big names do not count,. Double Action have players such as Bonang Otlhagile, Veronica Mogotsi and Lesego Radiakanyo who can be deadly, while Cubs Ditawana have Otibile Dube, goalkeeper Lebogang Gakebone, Kgomotsego Gabriel and captain Lillian Waniwa, who are also capable of spoiling the Gaborone party.
Double Action coach, Raizer Monini said Cubs Ditawana were a closed book to him, adding that the little he saw of the team was that they won in their region, therefore they were equally a good side.
He said he also gathered that Cubs Ditawana had played fewer games in their league, given that there were only five teams, which he said therefore meant they had played nine games overall, compared to Double Action’s 14.
“… This translates that we are fitter, compared to them. However, we will give them the respect they deserve, but we are not going to allow them to drag our good name in the mud,” he said.
He said preparations went well despite the fact that seven of his players were on national team duty, and only joined the team on Wednesday, therefore he would have only one day to train the whole team together.
Cubs Ditawana coach, Biki Maraki said their preparations for the championship went well and the players were ready and looking forward to upsetting Double Action.
He acknowledged the fact that Double Action had quality players and half of their squad was part of the national team, but said he had told his players to forget about Double Action’s big names, but concentrate on the game
Maraki said he told them to be themselves and play their normal game, and forget that they watch some of their opponents on television, adding “we are a closed book, that’s our advantage, now they will know us”.
He said they had earned their place in the championship and that at the end of the game, that will start at 9 am at Lekidi East ground, Double Action would know all Cubs Ditawana players.
Still on Friday at 9am, Royal Fighters will take on Orapa All Stars at Lekidi West, while Granada will battle it out with Francistown United at Lekidi West and then Green Lovers will tussle it out with Mexican Girls at Lekidi East, both at 11 am. ends
