05 Jun 2022

The Melody gospel television show was launched on Friday at Fairgrounds Holdings, ahead of the first auditions to be held in Francistown on June 11.

Melody gospel television show, aired on Botswana television, is a reality singing gospel television show, where talent is discovered, nurtured and developed through a singing competition.

The idea of a gospel television show was born in 2017 as a charity show by youngsters who wanted to improve the livelihoods of their communities.

It was during a charity project in Gaborone that one South African business man, Malaki Masego saw potential in the youngsters who were part of the project.

He then encouraged the idea of a television show, which he ensured it kicked off by sponsoring it, and that was the beginning of Melody gospel television show season one.

Season two and three of the show saw many local sponsors and partnerships coming on board, allowing the show to grow in leaps and bounds while at the same time contributing to the development of communities through charity work.

Founder of the show, Pagson Ntsie promised a thrilling season four as they start their auditions in Francistown and Gaborone.

However, he said they were unable to have countrywide auditions due to budget constraints and lack of sponsorship.

Ntsie appealed for partnerships and sponsorships to improve the show.

“A television show such as this one is expensive to produce, but it is an investment,” stated Ntsie, saying the creative industry was capable of creating employment.

He indicated that Melody gospel television show was currently considering employing 30 young people.

Therefore, he urged corporate companies to come on board.

Since establishment, Melody gospel television show has contributed to the educational development of 15 young people.

“We send five young people to tertiary institutions at the end of every season through our strategic partner Gaborone University College of Law and Professional Studies,” Ntsie noted.

He explained that they did not only focus on theyoung people’s voices, but other areas of their talents and nurture and develop them in any way they could.

“Some of them do not have the singing voices, but we identify their other hidden talents and needs and assist them to realise their dreams and goals,” he said.

Appealing for partnership and sponsorship for the creative industry, GTN director, also a musician, Taolo Moshaga assured the corporate world that their efforts would not be in vain as the creative industry contributed vastly to the socio-economic development of the country.

He said it was time government recognised the role played by the creative industry and allocate a budget specifically for the players.

Moshaga also urged Batswana to support their own and think smart with regard to their support.

He said the local industry could only grow and get recognition across borders when Batswana rally behind them and lift them up.

Melody gospel television show is sponsored by Fairgrounds as their main sponsor, Botswana Television, Gaborone University College of Law and Professional Studies, Berry Heart Creations and others. ENDS
