Four beneficiaries, on Tuesday, received a total of over P400 000 from Mascom Charity Cup proceeds.
The four; Xhumo, Mafitlhakgosi, Moamogwe primary schools and SOS received their gifts in Gaborone.
Xhumo Primary School, which was selected by the charity cup champions Orapa United, received over P195 000.
Mafitlhakgosi Primary School identified by runners up, Security Systems, were given over P146 000 while two semi-finalists teams Gaborone United and BDF X1 selected SOS children and Moamogwe primary with each receiving over P73 000.
Speaking at the handover event, Mascom communications and public relations head, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego, said most of their expectations were met through the cup.
“We had also wanted to see more fans at the stadium on the last day, though it was not the case. Nonetheless we were happy with the display of football. The mood was amazing and a testimony to why Mascom continue to support Botswana sport,” she said.
Furthermore, Lebotse- Sebego said Mascom had always believed in Botswana sport, given its compelling story and the knack to unite the nation.
She said Botswana sport had demonstrated courage and the will of the human spirit.
Mascom, she said, was convinced that sport cuts across all the nationalities, religions, political affiliations, gender and age.
She said Mascom had aligned the cup to their sustainability, community and social impact ambitions.
“As Mascom, we are not only concerned about positioning as a business leader, but also to position as a community leader, hence we do so many things in the community, aside from the profitability and the business aspect of creating value for shareholders,” she said.
For his part, Botswana Premier League chief executive officer, Solomon Ramochotlhwane, said his organisation had chosen to be with Mascom for various reasons.
“But the key reason is that where there is Mascom, there is happiness. It is because football brings happiness and the two of them put smile on the faces of the under privileged across the country,” he said.
Ramochotlhwane said football was the biggest sport and employed many people. ENDS
