Spar Women’s Challenge returns July 9 after a two-year break.
Having started 27 years ago in Pretoria, the challenge took on board Lady Khama Charitable Trust through the Lady K RUN21, and lists Clover, Ya Rona FM, and Bokomo as its sponsors.
The family friendly event, expected to attract more than 1 000 participants, will include five and 10km marathons.
Speaking at a press brief in Gaborone on Tuesday, Spar risk manager, Neville Roygton, said proceeds from the challenge would be donated to the Lady Khama Charitable Trust, to benefit among others, vulnerable women and children and people living with disabilities. Roygton said, through such initiatives, Spar striveds to improve uplift communities.
He said there would also be a pack of sanitary products from each entry package.
“The idea is for the runners to make personal donations to girls in need of pads and also interact with them through Lady Khama Trust,” he explained.
Lady Khama trust coordinator, Laone Batshedi, said since inception, the trust had provided material support of more than P18 million to 61 NGOs and community upliftment investments.
She said the trust’s current focus was on projects such as specialised wheelchairs, student spectacles and electrification of female headed households, all of which was possible through the generosity of donors, sponsors and participants in fundraising events
“In light of all the heart-warming projects that the trust undertakes, the SPAR Women’s Challenge Botswana is a fun way to not only sprint towards a healthier lifestyle but to add value to the life of another person,” stated Batshedi.
The trust has been able to support more than 89 children through the wheel disability project, thanks to consistent fundraising and giving, Batshedi said. ENDS
