Kuru exhibition June 11

19 May 2022

The first large scale Kuru Art Exhibition since COVID-19 will be hosted in Gaborone at Sanitas Tea Garden and Alliance Francaise simultaneously next month.
In an interview recently, Kuru Art Project manager, Ms Maude Brown said most artefacts would be displayed at Sanitas Tea Garden while a few would be displayed at Alliance Francaise on June 11 this year.
“This would be the large exhibition since COVID-19 as last year we hosted a mini exhibition in Maun,’’ she noted“We need to select what to take to the exhibition because we have a lot and we cannot exhibit everything because of limited space.’’
She said artefacts  to exhibited  included oil paintings on canvas, print making particularly linocut both black & white and colour cuts as well as embroidery.
Ms Brown explained that it was worth taking their exhibitions to places as far as Gaborone as it helped to break barriers between cultures, particularly that Kuru arts were predominately influence by san culture.
She expressed gratitude that during COVID-19 more people in Botswana visited their centre and kept them going. ‘’We want to thank them because we would have closed shops if it wasn’t for them,’’ she said. ENDS
