05 May 2022

The first two phases of the Letlhakane stadium project are expected to be completed in November.

Lucara technical services manager, Reuben Moalosi, told the village leadership during a tour of the project that the 2 500-seater stadium had a carrying capacity of 10 000.

He stated the contractor, TKM Engineering, had a staff complement of 140, 60 of whom were locals.

Moalosi stated that phase one of the project, which is expected to be completed in July, included a boundary wall, ablutions, change rooms, platform, running tracks, parking as well as an access road.

He said phase two covered installation of outdoor courts and electrical reticulation, adding that for this they had engaged specialists from South Africa to do ASTRO turf, while materials to be used had been ordered from Germany.

Moalosi said they were awaiting a quotation from the Botswana Power Corporation to install electricity on the site.

He said once the two phases were complete, the stadium would be ready for use especially for football and athletics.

He said phase three of the project, which would be budgeted for in the 2023 financial year, would include a multi-purpose hall with offices and space for indoor courts, adding that it would also have stands.

Meanwhile, Moalosi said the youth of Letlhakane would be engaged to do artwork on the boundary wall. ENDS
