BTV airs Ke Sure ka Rafiwa family sitcom

SKY girls BW has launched the first family situational comedy dubbed Ke Sure Ka Rafiwa at Capitol cinemas to be aired on Botswana Television later this month.
SKY girls BW is a behavioral change campaign funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for teen girls aged 13-19 years old to empower and help them build resilience.
They use multiple channels to reach teenage girls including a free SKY magazine distributed to schools and host radio dramas and live radio shows to serve girls.
During the launch on Wednesday SKY girls Programme Manager Gaone Manatong said the sitcom which is played by Isago Molefe as Rafiwa followed the life of a teenager who lived with her extended family.
In the movie the overzealous Rafiwa discovers herself and on the way learning about life skills and how to be comfortable in her own skin without imitating anyone.
The confident and ever smiling character makes mistakes such as any other teenage girl would, such as inviting other girls to the house and partying while home alone, that kind of girls in the hood style.
This however did not deter the energy she had as free spirited as she was.
Even after flunking during a school campaign for a huge responsibility that required vigilance she still afforded to smile and wished her competitor well.
Rafiwa also tips parents, especially fathers oh how best to relate with their children and other siblings. The movie portrays how teenage girls relate with other.s In an interview, the 16 year old lead actor, Molefe said she enjoyed being on the show.
“It was an eye opening experience, the message teaches teenagers that it is good to be unique. Even when people were distressed she always had the energy to change someone’s mood instantly,” she said.
She also said the character carried a light that made people feel happy and loved.
“People tend to always want to be similar to the next person because they are popular, the Sure ka Rafiwa character had that light to teach them that it is ok to be different,” said Rafiwa
Masego Sekai who got the opportunity to watch the 6th and 11th episode premiered said she was impressed by how the sitcom matched with the ones she has watched before.
“It was really awesome I applaud the production team and if you watch a lot of comedy you would think you were watching one of them. I laughed the whole time, Rafiwa is one free spirited young girl,” she said.
Most guests agreed that the sitcom was teaching parents at home especially fathers at how best to relate with a girl child.
They also indicated that it was a lesson through the character Rafiwa to know how to navigate in life. Ends
