05 May 2022
Sekhutlwana sa Bannye will host a children’s cultural event on Saturday to showcase and expose children to cultural activities.
Speaking in an interview with the coordinator, Edwin Moroka, he said the objective of the event was to promote Setswana language and culture from the grass roots level.
“We realised that children were not doing well in Setswana language when we toured schools and worked with teachers to help them with Setswana,” he said.
He also said there was a gap in Setswana language particularly at analysing poetry, writing Setswana composition and how to use Setswana idioms and expressions
He said they were planning to hold the event annually and regionally so that it was not held in part of the country only for the benefit of all children.
He said they were expecting to be entertained by children performing metshameko ya Setswana, poko, dipolelo tsa Setswana and Didirisiwa tsa Setswana among others.
Moroka also noted that Sekhutlwana sa Bannye was hosting a radio program on Duma FM that aired every morning from 6:45am to 6:55am and that it targeted children who were up to 16 years to promote Setswana language.
The day was celebrated under the theme: Go nosetsa matlhogela. Ends
