Ashley Thungthung and Tshwanelo Mmereko were crowned Miss Pre-Teen and Miss Teen Molepolole at the community hall in Molepolole.
The two girls outshined seven other beauty contestants to scoop the crowns for the first edition of the pageant.
Miss Teen’s first princess was Aone Mpati while the second princess was Baone Sekhakhu.
Meanwhile Vicky Keipeile was selected Miss Pre-Teen first princess while Rethabile Dira was chosen second princess.
The two winners were awarded one night accommodation at Nonhlanhla Guest House and comforters and certificates of participation extended to all the participants.
Miss Global Tourism Supermodel Botswana Michelle Moyo, Miss Rainbow Nation Botswana Mitchell Ikutlweng and Miss World Heritage Botswana Connie Koolatotse had a tough decision of choosing the winners given the judging principles.
The categories consisted of best dressed, best smile, best walk, most consistent, most confident and aptness in answering questions based on social and personal issues.
Mmereko scoop best smile as well as most consistent in the pageant whereas Thungthung scooped best walk. In an interview post crowning, the excited 17 year old Mmereko said she was honoured to be crowned the first Miss Teen Molepolole.
“This is an indication that indeed hardwork pays,” She said.
Mmereko further pointed out that she will be starting a non-profitable organisation through which she would train and boost other girls’ confidence, especially those who have tried their luck in beauty pageants but hit a snag.
“My intention is to give them hope and strength to try their luck again and again,” she stated.
The beautiful nine year old Thungthung said her intentions was to use her position to solicit for donations to help orphans with their basic needs.
The director of the pageant Andy Metsemebedi said her greatest challenge was insufficient funds as she was getting support from her parents only.
“Despite all the efforts, I was not able to secure any sponsors as such my parents came to my rescue and sponsored me, which I am truly grateful for,” she explained.
Despite the financial strain, Metsemebedi said she was indeed grateful that the event was a success.
She also added that the intention was to make the pageant an annual one with the hope of securing sponsors from now on.
Metsemebedi advised the crowned queens to make helping the community as their fundamental role.
“You are now the mothers of Molepolole so go out there, help others and become inspiration to the younger generation,” she advised. Ends
