Police VI men and Kutlwano women are champions of Return to Play Volleyball Tournament champions.

Police VI beat BDF VI 3-0 to clinch the coveted title at Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) on Saturday.

Police VI and BDF VI men’ teams are long time rivals. There is never a dull moment when they face each other.

The Saturday match was no different as both teams started the first set neck on neck on the score board.

Police VI outclassed their opponents and won the set 25-16.

The second set BDF VI staged a come back but their minor mistakes cost them. They failed to receive let alone utilise their block and service, a mistake they would live to regret. BDF VI lost the set to Police VI 23-25.

On the third set Police VI launched a fierce attack with free spikes paralyzing their opponent and at some point BDF VI boys looked demoralized giving Police a chance to finish them off. Police VI won the set 25-21.

In an interview immediately after the final game, Police VI assistant coach Mompati Mere said he was happy that they emerged the overall winners.

“We had a game plan and we executed it very well and it has worked for us,” he said.

He also said their game plan was to concentrate on strong service and centre attack and that was exactly what they did. He added that his team had seasoned players.

“There is always a leader on the court who controls the game and gives other players moral Support,” said Mere adding that in essence his players were not under pressure throughout the game.

BDF VI head coach Disang Golekang expressed disappointment at their loss.

However, he was quick to point out that all was not lost given that players had not played for two years.

“Having to mobilize players within a short space of time and ended up in the finals was a remarkable achievement,” he opined.

On the ladies side the mighty Kutlwano beat Police VI 3-0 to lift the trophy. Police VI came to the finals having won all of their games at group stages, quarter and semi finals.

Kutlwano ladies team head coach Dopp Popp said Police was leading with a very big margin on the first set and had to quickly call time and restratigize and managed to recover.

On one hand Police VI ladies team head coach Shimaka Ngwanaotsile admitted that it was not their day as they failed to maintain their winning streak on the final game.

He said although they were leading with a big margin in the first set, they failed to maintain the lead when Tracy Chaba dished them balls they could not receive while she was in the service block saying “that is where we lost it.”

Speaking on the sidelines. BVF president Tsoseletso Magang said for volleyball to totally get started, they needed to prepare for a league in order to give players more game time.

However she said they were busy looking for sponsors for the league. ENDS
