The first-ever Pan African Fashion experience which kicked off in Kasane yesterday courtesy of African Fashion International (AFI) in partnership with Forbes Under 30 Africa Summit has brought excitement in the fashion industry.
The fashion experience which ends today has given local designers among them Mothusi Lesolle of IZaura an opportunity to present designs to delegates to appreciate and purchase.
The event also provided them with a platform to expand their market to a new audience from the US, Europe and Africa.
“AFI is one of the best platforms that can elevate our fashion career both in Africa and internationally. I am very excited that they have come together with Forbes. The two are the best collaborations one will like to associate with,” Lesolle said in an interview with BOPA.
The fashion designer who has showcased on international platforms has set himself apart from others given his brand’s social impact.
His collections is made of sustainable material and also curbs wastage by using offcuts, something which he believes attracted big brands such as Forbes and AFI towards his direction.
“I will be authentic with my collections and the aim is to give the world the taste of Botswana’s fashion. Focus will be on celebrating fashion tourism,” he said.
He said the fashion experience was a learning opportunity as he would also be showcasing alongside other designers among them the local couple DIHDAH, Candida and Wedu Montsho.
Their latest collection titled Diamonds of the Desert was inspired by Batswana’s strength and resilience, as well as its most valued stone-the Botswana diamond.
Three South African designers will also be showcasing alongside Mzukisi Mbane of Imprint who celebrates and tells ancestry stories using iconic prints.
Lesolle will share the platform with the likes of Kworks by Keneuoe Mhletswa who provides ready to wear garments specialising in both women’s and men’s wear.
Neema Kinoti who has transformed Kenya swimsuit industry will also showcase her combination of colour and prints with the latest fabrics emerging in international trends.
A press release from African Fashion International states that the experience in Botswana will showcase designers who are inspired by sustainability, innovation and the ecological beauty of Chobe.
“In collaboration with Botswana designers and models on the runway, the showcase will merge Africa and luxury for an audience who believes in the creative gifts of the continent,” states AFI in press release. ENDS
