The youthful UB Giants outplayed the more experienced BDF IX ladies to thrash them 3-0 in a tactical softball game on Sunday at the National Diamond  Stadium.

The game saw the youthful UB Giants preventing the experienced BDF IX from bating and fielding as they were all over the show.

The winning coach, Kelebogile Mabua said they prepared well for the game as they knew that their opponents were a tough team and they planned to frustrate them from the onset by denying them a chance to hit the ball.

He said they also decided to bunt the ball and use speed to get to the bases, saying the tactic worked well.

“I have a very youthful team and they listen when I give them instructions and they execute them in the field. 

Most of the teams are playing with old players and their speed is therefore compromised, giving my youthful team an advantage,” he said.

BDF IX coach Tshepo Mathame said his team was not playing their usual game and got easily frustrated by the UB Giants pitchers, who did not give them the chance to hit ball. He added that when they got the chance to hit the ball the fielders caught the balls easily.

“Our ladies did not hit the ball as planned and as you know softball is a game of hitting the ball, and if you fail to hit it you end up losing as it happened to us today, but it is not the end of the road and the next game you will see a different BDF IX,” Mathame said.

In other games, it was Mabua again who coached his UB Giants men to wallop Eagles 6-3 to seal the weekend fixtures with a victory.

Mabua said his men, who had earlier lost to BDF IX  men 5-7, had to pull their socks to win the other game by correcting the errors they made in the first game.

In other games played yesterday, Vikings ladies clobbered Eagles ladies 15-6 while the Vikings men walloped Eagles men 7-0. 

On Saturday Blue Angels men suffered a 1-12 defeat at the hands of Panthers men.

The rivalry of the disciplined forces came to light when Police 9 men hammered BDF IX 4-0. 

As if that was not enough, Police IX continued to annihilate Wells 3-6. BDF IX men redeemed themselves by beating Gatalamotho 5-3. The Titan ladies had a field day when they hammered Wells ladies 14-1. On Friday Bears ladies beat Rivals 15-0. ends
