A youthful Dynamites women’s team has been commended for displaying courageous performance.
Despite losing 0-3 to Mafolofolo during the last match of the preliminary stage of the volleyball tournament at Molapo Crossing indoor sports arena on Saturday, coach Tshepo Molosiwa said she was impressed with her youthful players.
She said the team was dominated by untested players except for one.
“It is still too early to expect more from the team. The players are still learning to jell together, establish formidable systems and play together as a team,” she said.
Molosiwa said the young team was undergoing a learning curve and the tournament offered an opportunity to match their skills and learn from experienced players.
Analysing the game, Molosiwa said Dynamites started the first set on a high note and maintained a formidable lead, only to lose momentum along the way.
“They still lack the zeal to maintain their positive display.
I am confident that the players will be strong in the future,” said Molosiwa.
Meanwhile, Mafolofolo coach, Motsereganyi Wago-Kamankala praised his team for being formidable.
“The players were agile, they were serving well, connected and communicated well as a team,” he said.
As is the case with other teams, Wago-Kamankala said Mafolofolo women’s team was dominated by young players.
Though still learning, he said the players had the hunger to grow the sport.
“Most of the players are still young, but we are giving them an opportunity to play and improve their performance. We started the first set under pressure and as our point thought they were running away with it, we pounced back to snatch the set,” he said.
Despite the generally impressive performance, Wago-Kamankala said the team was poor in blocking and decision making resulting in giving away easy points.
In the other women's fixture, BDF VI defeated Yaros 3-1. BDF VI completed the group stage of the tournament with two wins from the three games while Yaros lost all their three games.
The closing game of the day was expected to be a clash of the titans, as Kutlwano locked horns with Kalavango.
Led by experienced players among them Tracy Chaba, Kutlwano was unstoppable as they were not humiliated by the rampant attacks from their opponent.
Even though equally led by experienced players like Monica Alfred to guide the young players, Kalavango suffered a 3-0 defeat to conclude the preliminary stages of the tournament.
Kutlwano has won all three matches of the preliminary stage while Kalavango lost two games and registered a single win. ends
