DML Wellness Centre, in collaboration with Ledubeng Park, will host the inaugural Treasure Hunt Extravaganza over the weekend.
Over 200 participants are expected to attend the fun filled exercise at Ledubeng Park, which is said to be the first of its kind in Kanye.
In an interview, the event coordinator and DML Wellness Centre director, Daniel Letshelaphala, said the concept was developed as a way of inculcating a culture of physical exercise.
“We have set out thinking about ways to make our exercises fun, exciting and interesting so that they can be more appealing and motivational for more to exercise,” he said.
He, therefore, encouraged revellers to go enjoy the several sports activities that were added to the programme.
Letshelaphala stated that one of the highlights of the wellness event was a treasure hunt, which would enable participants to walk for three kilometres, as both an adventure and a way of exercising
Other competitions include a tug-of-war, strongman challenge, tyre drill challenge, five aside soccer competitions, aerobics and Jumba exercises, which is one of the activities that makes the even so unique as it will allow everyone to participate.
He said the treasure hunt winner will get a hamper of supplements as a way of promoting nutrition, while the overall winners will get medals and floating trophies.
“We are filled with gratitude for this event as we celebrate recovery and hope from the hardships of COVID-19. It is time to renew ourselves and discover new ideas of keeping healthy,” he said.
“Going forward, we need to work towards reducing and preventing non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer and others, which awre mostly common amongst the economically active workforce and the general public,” he said.
Letshelaphala said they have enrolled a team of participants on a three months biggest looser challenge, which is being offered for free as part of their social responsibility. “We realized that the unemployment rate is high.
People have no money, but more are dying due to these non-communicable diseases. So we intentionally did this so that we take part in helping our society,” he said.
He noted that facilitators will be present work closely with participants to ensure that we provide this outdoor opportunity in the safest manner, following all the health requirements of crowd capacity and social distancing and sanitation.
Letshelaphala also encouraged small businesses to join since they have catered for flea market to support local small businesses. ENDS
