Thune bushwalk organisers appeal for sponsorship

05 Apr 2022

Thune Dam Bushwalk organisers are appealing for sponsors as interest in the sporting and lifestyle event heightens.

Bobirwa Cultural Association (BCA) chairperson, Leonard Kwada, said in an interview that the inaugural bushwalk slated for May 7 was attracting enquiries and registration from across the country as well as South Africa and Lesotho.

“Although the event is drawing the intended attention from participants and patrons, it has not yet moved sponsors. We have reached out to a number of corporates to sponsor us, particularly those having investments in Bobirwa and we continue to appeal to companies to come on board to help us in this endeavour,” Kwada appealed.

He said organisers had ‘covered a lot of ground’ in advertising and positioning the event as a sporting or lifestyle event that had the potential to draw multitudes to the region.

The first of its kind in the Bobirwa region, the organisers have taken advantage of the landscape in the area to give participants an opportunity to enjoy the view from hills and vegetation peculiar to Bobirwa while simultaneously feeding their sporting and lifestyle needs through 15 and 30km walks.

“…Bobirwa Cultural Association decided to organise an event of a bush walk particularly on tourism diversification, hence the concept of dam tourism,” Kwada said.

He said the event was expected to boost the local economy that had been weakened by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Buoyed by their vision of rendering Thune Dam Bushwalk a regionally acclaimed lifestyle event, BCA is targeting 1 000 participants.

Registration for the event is through Thune Dam Bushwalk Facebook page and BCA’s email address.

Tickets for the event have started selling via Webtickets and at Spar supermarkets. ENDS
