Boxers invade Glenvalley for interclub tournament

31 Mar 2022

Fists are expected to fly thick and fast tomorrow when Glenvalley Boxing Club hosts the fifth installment of the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) interclub tournaments.

The tournament is expected to attract boxers who are battling to reach their peak after a long layoff owing to the COVID-19 restrictions.

BoBA secretary general, Taolo Tlouetsile, highlighted in an interview this week that the scheduled tournaments were helpful to the association’s calendar of events and they enabled boxers to keep their fitness level.

Tlouetsile said the tournament was also used to qualify boxers for the national championships at the end of year.

He said they decided to suspended the once favored best of the best tournament due to lack of financial sponsorship, but if anything came out positive they would not hesitate to bring it back.

High octane action is expected across different weight categories as boxers’ battle for bragging rights and honours.

A fierce battle is expected in the 64kg where Tebogo Rennie of Prisons is seeking revenge against his traditional rival, Kabo Seitshiro of Selebi Phikwe.

Seitshiro narrowly beat Rennie 3-2 in a tight contest in the last open tournament a fortnight ago.

In the men’s 57kg, Kagoetsile Raogwathile will look to overturn an embarrassing 5-0 defeat he suffered at the hands of visiting Lobatse-based George Molwantwa.

In their last outing, all the five judges waved to Molwantwa’s corner for a clean sweep against his bruised opponent.

Other interesting bouts to look forward to are in the 60kg where Treasure Moremi of DTCB has been reigning supreme.

He is expected to defend his victory against the likes of Ntwaesele Letlhogonolo of Prsions.

Letlhogonolo’s teammate and former national team hard hitting pugilist Mmusi Tswiige will battle in the 70kg division. ENDS
