Ghost Chiefs Forest put foot on pedal

31 Mar 2022

Promotion battle continues this weekend in Debswana First Division South league.

Following exchange of places in the top three positions after last week’s games, the battle has become more tense.

Holy Ghost seized the log leadership after long time leaders, URI Black Forest, were stung by lowly placed Taung Young Strikers by a solitary goal.

Forest’s loss also gave third placed Mochudi Centre Chiefs chance to close ranks, so the difference between third to first position is a point, a reality that all the teams are alive to.

The close gap also means that supporters are sure to be treated to mouthwatering displays in the remaining seven games and this weekend the top three teams will be expected to put gallant fights against their opponents.

Of the trio, Black Forest are perhaps the ones that have the toughest battle as they face Tlokweng Untied, who also have a healthy chance of challenging for promotion.

Tlokweng United are at position four with 24 points, just four points shy of Holy Ghost.

Black Forest will therefore need to conjure their best form to avoid the possibility of losing two games in a row, a development that would drastically affect their quest for promotion.

New log leaders, Holy Ghost, will be hoping to enjoy the summit for a while as they welcome UF Santos at Holy Ghost Park.Holy Ghost will be banking on the fact that Santos are not as lethal as yesteryears as they currently lie at position eight in the 12-team log.

Holy Ghost gaffer, Oupa Kowa said in a post-match interview last weekend after their 3-0 drubbing of Mochudi Rovers that their intention henceforth would be to win every game, the possibility of which would hand his team an automatic promotional spot.

Third placed Chiefs will be hosting Matebejana at River Plate in Mochudi, who are sitting at position seven with 19 points.

Meanwhile, after the only midweek game played on Wednesday, Motaung Young Fighters are still on their quest for a first ever league win in their maiden season in the first division.

The Kang outfit lost 1-2 to Broadhurst United and will lie in wait for Mochudi Rovers at Mahusane Primary School grounds, where they will be hoping for their first maximum points.

They are rooted at the basement of the log standings with a paltry three points from 14 games, a difference of seven points from second lowest Red Sparks and a 25 points from the log leaders.

In other fixtures, Red Sparks will welcome Broadhurst United in Tlokweng while Matebele will lie in wait for Taung Young Strikers. All games will be played on Saturday and kickoff is at 3:30pm. ENDS
