Women football grapples with challenges

Women football is still faced with several challenges, says Heritage Sport Academy coach, Temogo Benjamin.
Benjamin, who is also Women Football League Committee secretary, said this in Francistown Sunday during a post-match interview after her team and Reteng Banyana clash.
She said most of her players needed both parental and community support since they used public and private transport to attend training and participate in league games.
Benjamin said it would be safer for players to have a dedicated transport.
One of the challenges Benjamin mentioned was lack proper grounds.
“It is expensive to use council facility as we are requested to pay P250 per game,” she said.
Benjamin further appealed for training of women’s team leadership as majority of them did not have relevant skills yet they were expected to deliver good results.
‘I am the only holding a D license in the team while others have nothing,’ she lamented.
Benjamin said lack of resources was also a concern.
She said Jacaranda Women’s Football League is sponsored by Jacaranda School to the tune of P40 000 for one season.
Also, she said P10 000 of this amount went to Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) for administration purposes while P30 000 was for the league, especially prize money.
Furthermore Benjamin appreciated Botswana Football Association (BFA) for supporting them with mobilisation fees.
However, Heritage Sport Academy defeated Reteng Banyana 7-1.
In other fixtures over the weekend, log leader, Francistown United beat Strong Boys and Girls 5-1.
Francistown United are leading the log with 28 points from 11 games followed by Tutume Soccer Angles on position two with 22 points. Flying Girls played two all draw against Shashe Mooke.
Coloured beat Mandunyane 1-0, Diamond Girls beat Ladies Focus 1-0 and while Tutume Young Fighters lost 1-0 to Tutume Soccer Angles. ENDS
