28 Mar 2022

Motaung Young Fighters, on Sunday, pipped Lokgwabe United 1-0 to sail through to the last 16 of the Orange FA Cup Challenge.

Motaung will face Gaborone United in the next round.

Hundreds of supporters from Kang and Hukuntsi attended the Kgalagadi District derby, but both teams did not put up a spectacular show. In the first stanza, they lost possession easily.

The game became more interesting in the second half as Motaung tried to prove their superiority while Lokgwabe boys stood their ground. However, their pressure eventually paid dividends as Motaung’s trusted striker Mpontshang Dinawe found the back of the net. Dinawe, who was a marvel to watch, stole the ball from his opponent and slotted past Phenyo Motshabise to open the scoring sheet in the 65th minute.

The goal seemed to awaken United who dominated proceedings after the goal, but they found Motaung defence in a mean mood.

Many fouls were committed by both teams and the referee was forced to dish out yellow cards until Keitumetse Difelo of Motaung bore the brunt of the referees’ punishment by getting his marching orders.

United coach, Jankane Mmoloki, expressed disappointment about their loss. He said the referee denied them a penalty that could have afforded them an opportunity to draw level. However, he said they would go back to the drawing board to work on their mistakes for future competitions. For his part, Motaung coach, Goitsemodimo Morulane expressed gratitude for their win.

He said they would test their players’ strength against the elite league players and that it would have a positive impact in the long run. Dinawe was crowned the man of the match and walked away with a trophy and airtime worth P500. ENDS
