Eagles victorious against Panthers
28 Mar 2022
A game between Panthers and Eagles brought back memories of the late 90s where earning a point was not an easy affair.
During those times, a clash of great minds between Tony Moyo of Panthers and Latzbon Segaise of Eagles proved to batters that a home run was not part of their plans as the two pitchers were way too ‘greedy’ to allow batters a chance to hit the ball.
This battle played out at Diamond stadium on Saturday during the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) league.
Fans shouted and clapped hands when it became apparent that veteran pitcher Moyo was in action for Panthers.
This, however, did not faze Eagles, who were ‘dying’ to win the game.
Indeed, their eagerness was well placed as they managed to register their first point in the first inning. The second inning, however, was a different ball game, as neither team registered a point.
To buttress their eagerness to win, Eagles scored another point in the third inning.
The initial two points were enough inspiration for the Eagles as they registered four more points at a go in the fifth inning, putting them in good stead to win the game.
Panthers were not going to go down without a fight, hence scoring two points, with the game ending six-two.
In an interview, Moyo said Eagles came well prepared and they played to their coach’s instructions.
However, he said his boys were mind played by Segaise’s charges, adding that they would need to correct their mistakes.
Segaise said he told his boys to play short swings to help them win Panthers’ strong balls.
He said they came well prepared to frustrate Panthers by playing a defensive fielding, hence they were able to catch all the balls from their opponents’ batting, which also added more pressure on them, as they could not score points.
Segaise said they came to the Panthers game bleeding from the 2-12 clobbering they suffered at the hands of BMC Rival.
In other games played on Saturday, Eagles ladies beat BMC 30-27 in a game which was a bit cold, despite a lot of points being scored, while BDF IV ladies won 12-1 against Panthers.
Another mouth-watering game was between BDF IV and Panthers, which was won 1-0 by BDF IV.
BDF IV also got free points after Gideon’s Warriors failed to play as they could not raise the required number of players. ENDS
