Sankoyo Terrors to set Maun on fire
16 Mar 2022
Fireworks are expected this weekend when Sankoyo Bush Bucks lock horns with Maun Terrors at Maun Sports Complex in the second round of the First Division North league.
Some families will be divided for 90+ minutes as some support either of the two rival Maun-based teams.
Spectators will also be expecting an interesting and entertaining derby as both teams have been struggling to win games.
Although it is always difficult to predict the winner, the margin is expected to be small. In their last meeting, Maun Terrors won 1-0.
However, some supporters are of the view that Sankoyo will easily walk all over Terrors because the latter are in the relegation zone.
Ngurungu, as Sankoyo are affectionately known, are in position six while Terrors are last on the log.
North West District Botswana Games manager, Tebogo Mogaetsho said they were looking forward to an interesting game.
He said Terrors might be at the bottom of the log, but that anything could happen considering that it was a derby and previous results meant nothing.
He also noted that Terrors started the season on a high note and defeated their bitter rivals, but they lost focus along the way.
On one hand, he noted that the former premier league outfit was in a good run of form and sterling performance, adding that they had a chance to be amongst the top three teams when the league completes.“It will be unfortunate if the Ngurungu boys fail to collect the maximum three points, although we cannot rule out a draw as Terrors can also rise to the occasion,” he added.
Sports writer, Thuso Rammidi, concurred that Sankoyo stood a chance to win the game, saying their players looked motivated and vibrant.
He added that they seemed to be using their previous experience in the premier league to put their house in order.
“This has rubbed into the players to perform better and with their current position in the log, they may not gain automatic promotion, but they can use this season to build for the next. Victory will be a major boost for the Ngurungu boys,” he said.
As for Terrors, Rammidi said the team has been struggling and that a lot needed to be done to rejuvenate the players who seemed to have lost confidence to survive relegation.
Nhabe Regional Football Association chairperson, Norman Sebele had a different view.
He said the game would be interesting and he predicted a draw. He was also optimistic that the encounter would once again test rivalry between the two clubs and their supporters.ENDS
