Tswiige decries lack of competition

Prisons Boxing Club’s 71kg boxer, Mmusi Tswiige, has decried lack of competition in his weight category.
Tswiige expressed his disappointment post his win of headline fight against Kagiso Ntoti of Eastern Military Garrison (EMG) in Selebi Phikwe Saturday t.
He accused opponents and their coaches of denying him match practice, thus depriving him a chance to assess his progression.
“When they are matched against me, their coaches would move swiftly to pull them out… that is why this is my first fight of the year,” claimed Tswiige.
Some pugilists have already had about four matches this year due to availability of opponents in their weight categories.
However, the senior boxer was resilient.
He said he would never give up, despite training alone in preparations for the champions in November where he was hopeful that opponents would show up.
Although he conceded that there were few boxers in his weight category, Tswiige argued that the few were enough competition for him if they could gather their bravery and enter the ring to face him.
Some boxers did not only pull out after matching exercise, they just did not show up at the tournaments knowing Tswiige would be there, he added.
Tswiige however, commended Ntoti for a brave fight saying the EMG pugilist accorded him some competition.
Although he lost 0-5 to the feared boxer, Ntoti picked some positives from his loss.
In fact he is lining himself to be the next Tswiige when the latter finally hangs his gloves.
“I’m working on my fitness though my health sometimes sets me back,” said Ntoti who was full of praise for Tswiige.
He found Tswiige a worthy competition despite opponents fearing to take on him.
“I’m the only one that takes him on and he is always happy to fight me. He teaches me the sport and I constantly improve from sparring against him,” Ntoti said, adding that he was disappointed some pugilists were afraid of Tswiige.
In fact, Ntoti noted a positive in his fight in that when he attacked Tswiige the latter lost focus.
Still at the EMG tournament, a few women showed up for the competition.
There were only four bouts; 52kg, 54kg, 57kg and 60kg categories.
As for men, the most contested categories were the 60kg featuring four fights and 67 featuring three.
A total of 20 fights were penned down for the day. ENDS
