GIM readiness test March 12

Sports View Athletics Club will host Golden Sports Agency track and field event at the National Stadium on March 12.
The event, expected to start at 3pm, will be a test for Gaborone International Meet (GIM) organising committee, which is finalising preparations for next month’s GIM.
World Athletics will monitor the weekend competition since it is a build up to the GIM that is classified as a continental tour bronze status event.
Golden Sports Agency director, Glody Dube, said in an interview that they were expecting Botswana’s crème de la crème to compete at the weekend event.
“We are going to witness the return of Lydia Jele and the 4x400 men’s relay team that won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics,” he said.
Dube, however, said Isaac Makwala would not compete because he had stated that he was not in good shape and his focus was preparing for the GIM.
He confirmed that the red-hot Letsile Tebogo had confirmed his participation.
“All in all we are expecting a competitive meet as a lot is at stake, given that athletes want to qualify for major tournaments early so that they can start preparations well in time,” he said
He said while the athletes treasured the Saturday event, Golden Sports Agency would use it to evaluate itself prior to the GIM.
Dube appealed to Batswana to buy the P50 tickets and fill the stadium.
The director said the events in the men’s categories included 400m hurdles, long jump, 100m, high jump, 400m, 1500m and 800m.
He said in the women’s categories they were expecting a fierce battle in 400m, shotput, 200m and 800m. Ends
