Masitaoka woes deepen

09 Mar 2022

Masitaoka are slowly losing grip on their ambition to survive the dreaded relegation axe.

Following a string of hot and cold performances from the Molepolole based premier league outfit, it is now apparent that the remaining fixtures would prove to be a mammoth task.

Masitaoka, fondly known as Majatlhaga by its legion of diehard fans, last tasted victory in February against Extension Gunners.

They had previously gone for five matches without collecting maximum points since they last beat BR Highlanders in January.

Masitaoka failed to hold on to their first half performance Tuesday afternoon at the VTM sport arena and let go of all the maximum points against another relegation threatened Prisons XI.

Two second half goals from Kitso Mpuisang and Tumo Keiketlile were enough to push the Warders away from the dreaded bottom four bracket and consolidate 21 points while they wait to meet Mogoditshane Fighters on Saturday March 12 in Otse.

Given the loss, Masitaoka face an uphill battle tomorrow against hoodoo side BDF XI.

After facing off with Matebele, Masitaoka will come face to face with Township Rollers who are still nursing embarrassing bruises Masitaoka inflicted on them when they eliminated them in an Orange FA cup encounter last December.

On Tuesday afternoon, (March 8) Prisons set out differently from their two- all draw against Highlanders in their last match. It was a slow start to the first half mainly because of a water logged pitch and bad weather.

The hosts did not create any concrete chance in the first half save for a looping Mpuisang header that nearly made all the difference to the lukewarm match.

In the second half, Prisons came back a bit stronger and looked hungrier of the two sides.

They attacked from all fronts but were let down by empty spaces in their defensive wall that Masitaoka failed to capitalise on.

Mpuisang latched to a cross and put his side ahead moments after the break but was sadly stretched off after pulling a muscle and immediately replaced by Karabo Setoutwe.

Keiketlile put the game beyond Majatlhaga’s reach with only ten minutes remaining on the clock.

In other league games to be played this weekend Gilport Lions face Police XI in Lobatse on Saturday March 12, Gunners travel to Serowe to date Highlanders while Orapa United lie in wait for Rollers at Itekeng stadium.

On Sunday March 13, Gaborone United will look to cement their top position when the take Security Systems to the National Stadium. Notwane and Morupule will lock horns in Lobatse. Ends
