Make MRI mandatory
07 Mar 2022
National Under 17 women’s football team coach, Oaitse Moeti, has challenged CAF to consider introducing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for junior teams.
His sentiments followed Botswana’s 0-7 loss to Tanzania in a women’s world cup qualifier at Amaan Stadium on Sunday March 6.
Moeti said in an interview that his charges got a shock of their lives during warm up looking at their counterparts’ body structures.
He said the technical team tried to motivate the players, but it was too late, ‘as our players felt their opponents were older than them’.
“I strongly felt we were not playing with our age mates and I think all the tests that are conducted with the senior teams should be done at Under 17 level,” he said
Moeti said it looked like some countries were into results, forgetting about the development of the game, adding that it was not an excuse that they lost the game.
However, he said, Botswana would do everything it can to win the second leg, adding that trying to reverse the score line would be a tall order for his team.
“We believe we will get the positive results, but in addition to that, we have found out that Tanzania had been preparing for the game and they had been in camp for five months, whereas we had 10 days in camp, so that was another factor” he said.
The coach, however, said despite being humiliated, they had learnt a lot from the game, adding that the most important thing was to up their mental strength, given that there was a likelihood that they would meet the situation more often. Ends
