Top bottom of log clash in north

03 Mar 2022

First Division North (FDN) league log leaders, Nico United, await bottom placed Maun Terrors at Sam Sono Stadium to complete first round fixtures Saturday.

The fixture was postponed due to bad weather and the FDN committee rescheduled the game to March 5

After the fixture, the FDN will go on recess until March 12 when the second round will kick off

Nico, who have amassed 24 points from a possible 30, may go for the league break with a nine point gap between them and second placed Peacemakers if they prevail over Terrors.

When he took over the team, Nico coach, Botshelo ‘Observer’ Pelokgosi, declared to open a 21 gap between him and the next challenger and vowed not to lose a game in his utopic run.

“No no no! Nothing has changed. Not at all!” Pelokgosi responded when quizzed if his aim of opening a 21 point gap could have been revised now that there were only six points between him and Peacemakers

Nico coach said preparations for the Saturday game had been smooth and that he would not change his plans.

“I can’t fathom how Terrors can win against us. I don’t see that happening,” Pelokgosi said.

He said together with his technical team, they devised plans and approaches beyond comprehension of their competitors.

“Unless if they have appointed new coaches recently, they can’t read my game yet I’ve studied all the teams and their technical departments,” Pelokgosi said.

On one hand, Terrors coach, Boynyana Galeboe, is a worried man. His team is limping even before the last day of preparations.

In fact, his team had been suffering owing to constant travels away from home.

“Some of my players will not be available for this game due to commitments at work and weddings this weekend,” said Galeboe who rues that his team had never enjoyed a full complement of players.

He said t when he arrived at the team, the boys had difficulties playing the ball, but he drilled them to a point where they would create many chances although converting them was a failure.

At some point, he said, Terrors were up at position four before he left for studies.

However, the Terrors coach wished to survive relegation at the end of the season. This time he will be sitting on the bench against Nico.

Other FDN teams are already enjoying their breaks while recharging for the daunting second leg which will see teams pressing hard for automatic promotion position, a playoff position and worse, fighting tooth and nail to evade the dreaded relegation axe. ENDs
