World Athletic helps BAA align strategy
01 Mar 2022
World Athletics will conduct a seminar to help Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) revise its strategy.
The seminar, which kicks off today ending Saturday, will be conducted by World Athletics’ senior lecturer, Ralph Mouchbahani.
BAA has been operating contrary to the strategies of the world body, hence the need to drill BAA so that it can align its strategy to that of World Athletics.
BAA’s vice president, Oabona Theetso, said the seminar came at a right time, adding that their strategy was aligned to Botswana National Sport Commission’s.
“At the end of the seminar, we will figure out how to incorporate the two strategies to achieve a common goal of excellence both in the field and office,” he said
Theetso was confident that the seminar, to be attended by BAA board and secretariat, would help in the day to day running of the affairs of one of the celebrated codes in Botswana.
“Honestly we have not been smart, as we have not been measuring the attainability of our goals, despite having achieved a lot. So it’s high time we put all the things we want to achieve in black and white,” he said.
Theetso admitted that their athletes had been doing well in international stage due to their commitment and resilience. He said, despite facing numerous challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, their athletes remained resolute and motivated to bring glory.
“Even back then when committees changed abruptly that did not affect our athletes, they had always displayed strong character. With the World Athletics strategy now, I think we will do even better,” he said.
Some of the topics to be discussed include problem and situational analysis, formulating key problems, identifying the main goals, prioritisation of goals and project planning amongst others. ENDs
