Lucara Botswana has injected P300 000 into Botswana Netball Association (BONA) coffers.
The donation followed Lucara’s recent P300 000 sponsorship to the women football team as a way of encouraging the team ahead of the crucial game against Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the BONA sponsorship launch on Friday, Botswana National Olympic Committee, senior vice president, Tshepo Sitale said sport had the power to sell the countryto the world.
“And we want to believe that the seed that you are going to sow in netball today, will be visible in future as some of these athletes will represent the country in tournaments,” he said.
He said when teams and individual athletes that Lucara sponsored excelled, Botswana would be the winner as the name echoed and engraved in history books would be the country.
Lucara Botswana managing director, Naseem Lahri, said her organisation was committed to Botswana.
She said the money they had donated would be used by BONA to run their league, adding that they would continue to support BONA with anticipation that they would bring good results in future.
“We want to see you winning the World Cup, we want you to unite us as we have seen that with The Mares. Everyone was wearing blue, black and white. I am hoping that one day we will host an international game in a sport facility in Letlhakane,” she said.
Lahri said expectations were that the sponsorship would also help BONA to improve in its netball rankings.
BONA president Malebo Raditladi said she was happy that Lucara Botswana had found it fit to sponsor her organisation.
She said the sponsorship came at a right time as BONA was trying to get back to its feet after two years without activities. ENDs
