Miss Millenium pushes vision 2036 mandate

Beauty pageant fanatics will witness the crowning of the Miss Millenium during the event’s finale billed for Millenium Jazz Restaurant on Saturday.

This year’s edition themed Real Beauty is from within gears to push one of the Vision 2036 pillars of being a just and caring nation and beyond.

The event coordinator Zenzele Hirschfeld in interview on Thursday said the eye-catching pageant which has been centred around making a difference in the people’s aims to have it on Botswana’s annual calendar of events.

She said pageant which has been in existence for almost fifteen years has been contributing economically, socially to the growth of the country’s economy by creating employment, empowering women and making a difference by giving to those in need.

Hirschfeld  said this year’s event will not only crown the first, second and third princes but they would also award special categories to Miss Personality, best dressed contestant, best social media contestant, best fitness contestant and best category talent.

Being the first since COVID- 19 outbreak, the coordinator promises beauty pageant lovers an exceptional night from production to classy set up where the 14 contestants from villages sacross the country will vie for the corown.e

Hirschfeld explained the event commenced in 2008 in very small scale and it was just a dream which was brought to life the same year on Valentine’s day when felicity Bogatsu was crowned the winner. 

Phodiso Seilwe was crowned the winner in 2009, and in 2010 the founder and the producer saw the potential of the event to grow and they commercialised it where people began to pay fees at the gate.

Since then they had sponsors who have been responding positively such as Disteel Botswana, woman owned companies and Mascom Wireless Company which pulled off just after the COVID 19 era, she explained.

Hirschfield said they never got discouraged but only saw the growth of the pageant since the business community had also given a helping hand, noting that this year, they were proud to have roped in sponsors such as Coca Cola company and Keno Custom Fashion and Crocodile camp.

The coordinator said this year’s edition sought to double its normal reach in community reach outs, women and community empowerment efforts.

She said through the pageantry they were intended to create a safe and stable spaces for the girl and boy child, educational, mental and health advocacy. ENDS
