Food Hub brings back traditional games

21 Feb 2022

It will be a bee hive of activities during Food Hub Sundays chilling session slated for Adashe Garden Resort in Thamaga on Sunday.

Unlike most Sunday chillers which are focused on music, food and simply fashion, Food Hub Sundays have set themselves apart by lacing their monthly sessions with traditional outdoor sport games.

Passed through generations, traditional sport games such as egg and sack race will be among the activities lined for the day.

Owner and organiser of Food Hub Sundays, Thuso Mohurutshe is of the notion that traditional sport games form an important part of everyone’s life, as such could not be ignored as they often brought the nostalgic feeling of one’s childhood.

“I think the time is right to revisit these games and introduce them to the children post COVID-19 lockdowns, given the difficult time we all had,  wrangled in masks and having to engage mostly in virtual activities,” said Mohurutshe.

The organiser also said the games would be open to adults and children, as the event was meant to help families unwind from school and work busy schedules.

He said the games would engage the children physically and  mentally while having fun all day long. “These games are perfect for children as they encourage them to apply their minds analytically to life in general,” said Mohurutshe. He also added that the activities would enhance the participants’ interpersonal and social skills.

Besidesd the sport games, patrons will also be treated to art and craft activities, which Mohurutshe said were an effort to embolden creativity and artistic expressions.

Alongside the event will be a 5 Aside Charity Cup, whose proceeds Mohurutshe indicated would be donated to a beneficiary yet to be identified by the local social workers ENDS
