Maun artist to host solo exhibition
20 Feb 2022
Maun based artist Tshepo Phokoje will host her first fair dubbed Vixen Photography solo exhibition at Nhabe Museum from February 26 till end of March.
In an interview with BOPA, Phokoje, who is also a poet and a writer revealed that she has been a member of Poetavango poetry movement since the year 2018.
Initially Poetavango promoted poetry but have now spread their wings to include other forms of arts.
Her journey in wildlife photography started in 2020 by experimenting with a camera borrowed from a friend.
“I also learnt as much as I can by watching You Tube Videos and also enrolled on a six weeks programme that was offered by the American Embassy called American on the Move, where I learnt drawing and painting basics,” she said.
The Vixen Photography solo exhibition themed: Gratitude, is to honour herself for the opportunity brought by her talent in photography.
Through photography, she said, she was able to share the beauty and the rich diversity of the people of Botswana, wildlife and its landscapes.
She has collaborated with other female artists in coordinating the event, and said the ladies would direct the event, entertain, and also design the gifts.
Phokoje was hopeful that the exhibition would help market Botswana destinations such as Okavango Delta, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi Pans and Tuli area to the local and international tourists.
She has entered various photography competitions in Botswana and internationally and was once a first runner up in the BW Photographers awards under the wildlife category.
Her wish is to see more women take part in nature and wildlife photography. ENDS
