The Mares fit ready to kick
16 Feb 2022
Botswana senior women national team, The Mares, will face the Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe fit as a fiddle.
The two will meet in Africa Women Cup of Nations first leg encounter at the National Sports Stadium in Harare tomorrow.
The medic, Dr Merero Ntshese, said in an interview that the team had no major injuries, except for minor knocks that the physiotherapist could easily deal with.
Dr Ntshese said since they reported for camp, they had been in a bio bubble and have been observing strict COVID-19 protocols, adding that to date, all the players had been testing negative.
He said they did their last Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test on Monday.
The team’s physiotherapist, Unoda Chepete, concurred with the doctor, but said because of training and intense preparations, players would have minor knocks, which she said were manageable and would not stop them from engaging fully in the game.
The Mares physical trainer, Tshepo Goitsemang said they were fully prepared, adding the fact that they did not have major injuries was a clear indication that the player’s fitness was good.
He said during the first week of camp they concentrated on conditioning, from there they did fitness test and that helped.
The second leg will be played at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown on February 23. ENDS
